What is COOL Flying?
COOL Flying means conscious flying. Passengers are offered the opportunity to compensate for the harmful emissions of greenhouse gases of kilometres flown by opting for the planting and protection of forests worldwide.
Participating in the COOL Flying programme means that you take the greenhouse effect seriously: growing trees absorb CO2 from the air, converting it into oxygen which helps combating the greenhouse effect. At the same time development projects are being supported with a visible contribution to the conservation of nature.
Who are COOL Flying’s initiators?
COOL Flying is a Dutch initiative of Business for Climate and Multatuli Travel. The Face Foundation, DOEN Foundation and Triodos Bank are partners. The Face Foundation invests in planting, management and protection of forests worldwide.
How does COOL Flying work?
On
www.coolflying.nlyou can easily calculate the CO2 emission of your flown kilometres and what the compensation costs are. COOL Flying calculates the number of trees based on the number of kilometres flown. To participate immediately in the COOL Flying programme you can subscribe via our website. You will receive a certificate for your compensation.
Is there a form of independent monitoring?
SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance), an independent Swiss organization, certifies and verifies the quantity of CO2 stored in forest projects. To guarantee reliability the Climate Clearing House of Triodos Bank is in charge of the administration and calculation of the certificates. COOL Flying follows the guidelines of CBF, the Dutch quality mark for charities, as much as possible. CBF indicates that 75% of the proceeds must go to the charity itself.
For whom is COOL Flying intended?
COOL Flying is intended for both consumers and companies who wish to make a contribution to the combat of climatic problems and to the protection of nature. You will contribute not only to fight the greenhouse effect, but you will also support local development projects worldwide. The projects make a positive contribution to the local economy, employment and schooling.
What are the costs for COOL Flying?
Example: you have a return ticket Amsterdam Crete. In case of compensation for only the CO2 emission the charges are €9.52, which means that 25 trees can grow for a year. If you opt to compensate for all greenhouse gases, then the charges are €22.66 for 68 trees. You can easily calculate the emission and the charges for compensation of your own flight on www.coolflying.nl.
COOL Flying will be pleased to provide organizations with tailor-made offers.
Why is VAT charged?
CO2 credits fall under the Value Added Tax Act. That is why VAT is charged on the compensation amount. Companies can recover VAT. The amount of compensation is tax-deductible as operating expenses.
Why participate in COOL Flying?
It would be best to fly as few as possible. But if you choose to fly, then you can compensate your flight. In this way you will support the planting and protection of forests worldwide.
